GE REFLUX
GE Reflux is spitting or vomiting because the opening between the esophagus (food tube) and stomach doesn't quite close completely. A mild form is common in newborns and resolves by about 6 months of age when your child starts to sit up and eat food.
HOME CARE:
- Feed smaller amounts of food
- Wait about 2 1/2 hours between feedings
- Cut back on pacifier time
- Burp your child several times during each feeding
- Avoid pressure on the abdomen
- Place baby in an upright position for a half hour (30 minutes) after meals
- CALL YOUR DOCTOR DURING OFFICE HOURS IF:
- Your baby isn't gaining weight normally
- Your baby has been walking for more than 3 months and is still spitting up
- CALL YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY IF:
- Any blood is seen in the spit-up material
- The spitting up causes your child to choke or cough
